Bees to honey. The Facebook culture’s little book of etiquette.
Its mid afternoon and I have had over 300 hits on my Facebook page.Being in certain groups ( Music and History mainly) the information flow is incessant.I call it the beehive. People seeking informational nutrients, buzzing around informational flowers, increasingly regimented, as bee colonies are prone to do.The buzz is constant.and befitting the new AGE OF DRONES>>>>>>>
I observe the do’s and don’ts of FB culture and note that you can “like ” something, but not “love” it. I have made certain observations in the last year that explain why some content is so popular and why other posts are soundly ignored.
Pictures of your children are always wildly popular, provided they are not breaking the law, or having a melt down. Actually , melt downs are popular, but only if the child is under 5.
Political rants are unpopular.Even if your message resonates with many, the “in” crowd at FB will soon teach you to “play it light” I was wrong to attack the Whig party of 1821 and had no idea there was a huge fan base ready to protect it’s frilly borders.
If you plan to instant message someone, you better not be “on the prowl”. The most offensive thing on the planet is when some FB loser tries to score on a lady who has posted her pictures on line. Chances are the “lady” is a dude and the loser doing the hunting is unemployed, and unstable to boot. Angry face bookers are suspect in this cyber lite culture.
Pictures of digs in silly outfits remain high on the popularity list, eclipsed only by photographs of humans dressed in sillier outfits. Humor always wins..period.
Unfriending people can be tricky.Sometimes you may feel that have 8000 friends can be a burden, so you unfriend some of them in order to “clean house” Later, you bump into an unfriend and they accuse you of making them a facebook pariah, or as I call it, a Cyber Leper. You can “like” them back into social validity, but it takes time and effort. Many people seek therapy these days because they have been un friended..Its a growing social curse.
Finally, Face Book can be what you make it. Sure it has a creepy side, but if your message is consistent with your mission, then there is much to gain from Face book connections.Just don’t replace your real friends with Face Book friends. After all, they existed in real life before they became avitars ..Right?
